Conceptual modern bike inspired by Carlo Mollino.

Fall 2020

Practice of Design Course

Individual Project

I was challenged with applying Carlo Mollino’s design style to a modern day technology.

I chose the bicycle.

1/ research

Carlo Mollino was an Italian architect, designer and photographer.

Mollino was contrarian to the Art Deco design style of his times. Influenced by futurism, surrealism, and eroticism, his work was voluptuous, biomorphic, and organic – inspired by the natural female figure.

2/ ideation

/ Experimenting with the shape of the body of the bike to be inspired by the female figure.

/ Adjusting positioning of handles for ease of use.

/ Pivoted to electric bike (conceptual – excluding consideration of electric mechanics) to avoid conflict between pedals and handles.

/ Handles and arm rests designed to follow the shape of the body.
